My supervision philosophy is grounded in the principles of collaboration, creativity, and reflection. I strive to create a supportive and dynamic environment where supervisees can explore their professional identity and enhance their clinical skills. My approach is informed by arts-based supervision, the discrimination model, and postmodern/constructivist supervision, each offering resources for growth and learning.
Discrimination Model (Bernard, 1997).
I appreciate the idea of making intentional choices about how to interact with supervisees and understanding which roles are most appropriate for specific issues or skills. I value its versatility and the different focuses on the supervisee’s skills.
Art-Based Supervision
As an art therapist, I am integrating art-based supervision as developed by Dr. Barbara Fish (2017). I integrate the creative process in supervision to provide supervisees a source to reflect on their clinical work and to allow insight through artistic expression. Art-based supervision incorporates reflective activities to assist supervisees in finding their own answers and reflect in their professional development.
Postmodern/Constructivist Supervision
I value the diversity of perspectives that each supervisee brings to the supervisory relationship. And I enable them to create knowledge by bringing in curiosity and question dominant narratives. I encourage supervisees to develop a practice that is true and accurate for their cultural context and that of their clients.
The most essential qualities I want my supervisee to acquire are: 1) cultural responsiveness, I would like for them to be able to recognize and respect cultural diversity and be able to create spaces where everyone feels welcome and safe to share their experiences without judgement. 2) I will make sure to engage them in reflective practice to understand their own biases and privileges, and challenge systemic inequities. 3) I will constantly encourage ethical integrity, fairness and safety. 4) I want them to engage in creativity and artistic expression for reflective practices. 5) And, of course! I would like for them to acquire the skills and knowledge necessary to provide clinically sound care with evidence-based practices.
I’m excited to announce that I will be offering Clinical supervision and art therapy Supervision (biweekly) on Wednesday at 3:00pm,
